Hey guys, today I’m going to be talking about the X Games, one of the most popular skateboarding events out there it’s full of amazing skaters and lots of cool things.
What is X Games?
X Games is an annual extreme sports event hosted by ESPN with an average of 215,000 people at the event. The top winners of X Games get up to 50,000. The first X games event ever hosted was June 24th 1995 in Rhode Island around 38,000 people showed to that but just about 2 years later 83,500 people attended the winter X Games. Just last year the 2019 X Games was hosted in Minneapolis at the US Bank Stadium.
What is at the X games?
The summer X Games is held in a warm environment and includes competition in skateboarding, BMX biking, motorcycling,, rally car racing and surfing.
Skateboarders compete in the half pipe, a hollow semi circle made of concrete. There is also a competition for the best trick and most air off a jump. In “street” competitions, skateboarders skate around a park of obstacles and perform tricks. Famous skateboarder Tony Hawk, from San Diego, California, is probably the best known X Games athlete in the world.
BMX bikers also compete on a half pipe andĀ a street coarse. Anthony Napolitan of Youngtown, Ohio, landed the first double front-flip on a bicycle at summer X Games 15 in 2009.
There are also motorbike riders, they have to do a supercross race around a dirt obstacle course with street jumps. Travis Pastrana, from Annapolis, Maryland, is one of the top motor sports athletes and competes for Team Puerto Rico in international competitions.
